Vive la France!

Paris was a blast. It was my first time to Europe so it was quite a big deal for me. The reason for my trip was that Ray Caesar was exhibiting in a three person show at Magda Gallery. Ray, his wife Jane and I ran around town checking out the sites, meeting nice people and eating lots of food. The thing I found so amazing was how much the Parisians were absorbing American pop and street culture. I found books of many of the artists I work with being sold in bookstores. There were also many European life style magazines covering artists like Jeff Soto, Ray Caesar, and Gary Baseman… which surprised me. It was also nice to find a few galleries who show similar work to what we show. It seems Europe is really embracing this esthetic. I was fortunate to have my friend Andre Niemeyer show me all over the city. Andre is a painter from Brazil who has been living in Paris for the past seven years. He seems to know Paris better then most Parisians. I was also fortunate to spend a few days with American born artist Sunny Buick who has been living in Paris for the past three years. Having helpful tour guides who speak French is a life saver when you only know a few words of the language.
